Attending Life Drawing lessons at the Royal Drawing School in Shoreditch has had the added benefit of introducing me to the joys of Street Art (there’s not a lot of street art in my sleepy Cambridgeshire village 😉 )
During the Coronavirus Pandemic and the period of school closures I decided to make a piece of street art outside my school.
I knew my friends were missing school, and also that the teachers were missing us, so I decided to use the Kitchener “Britain Needs You” poster as the basis for my design: a reflected image of two head, one representing the teachers and one the pupils, the message: “Missing You”. And the zebra crossing felt like the perfect place to make the artwork.
I made templates the night before, and then woke at 5.00 am to start work on the Sunday morning, so that the few staff and pupils who still attended school would be greeted by the artwork on Monday morning.
